Lilly White

Whitens the whole gecko, leaving its colour in patches.

Shows on the whole body, the dorsal, the upper side, the middle of the side, the lower side and legs.Incomplete dominant: one copy shows, and two copies show more strongly.

What it looks like

A Lilly White turns most of the animal white: the head, the dorsal, the belly, the tail and much of the limbs. What is left of its own colour sits in irregular patches, mostly along the flank and on the limbs and head.

How much colour survives varies enormously. A strong one is almost entirely white with a few dark marks; a weaker one keeps a broad dark flank.

The white carries a highlighter-yellow accent along the belly line, which is what tells it apart from a cream White Pattern.

This page shows Lilly White drawn from its genes. For the written reference, inheritance tables and breeder notes, see the crested gecko morph guide on ReptiDex.

With other genes

  • It covers the pattern underneath

The white sits over the flame or harlequin, and over the spots, so only what it leaves uncovered still shows.

In depth

Produces white/cream coloration with pattern reduced or eliminated. Heterozygous animals show white coloring with some pattern retention. Homozygous Super Lilly White (L/L) is LETHAL and must NEVER be attempted. All breeding must use het x het or het x normal.

How to spot it

Lilly White animals are predominantly white/cream. Het animals show white coloring with reduced pattern.

Where it came from

Lilly White was founded by Lilly Exotics. Lethal homozygous genotype was discovered through line breeding.

How it is inherited

Incomplete dominant: one copy shows, and two copies show more strongly.

Written as L+ and l

CRITICAL: Super Lilly White (homozygous L/L) is LETHAL. Animals struggle to breathe, have trouble with motor skills, fail to eat, and usually die within days to one week. Likely due to extreme melanin reduction affecting crested gecko organ development and function. Melanin is found in organs of several species and may facilitate organ development. This is the ONLY confirmed lethal homozygous condition in crested geckos. Documented consistently across multiple breeding programs. Source: Foundation Genetics Part 2.1.

Beside other genes

  • Lilly White and Marbling strengthen each other

Marbling most distinct and pronounced on Lilly White background. Enhanced expression on white base.

  • Lilly White and Snowflake strengthen each other

Lilly White dramatically boosts Snowflake expression, producing near or full white coverage. Synergistic enhancement.

Morphs it takes part in

  • Frappuccinotakes some work

Tan/white blend coloration. Coffee and cream tones mixed across body.

    Needs Cappuccino, Lilly White.

  • Sorakadvanced

Intense coffee/cream/white coloration. Deeper than Frappuccino due to full Cappuccino expression.

    Needs Cappuccino, Lilly White.

  • Tangerine Lillytakes some work

Warm orange/peach tones on white Lilly base. Tangerine shifts the typical Lilly White cream toward orange.

    Needs Tangerine, Lilly White.

Health

Two copies (Super Lilly White) are lethal: those geckos do not hatch. Pair Lilly White only with non-Lilly geckos.
