How we grade evidence

Each entry carries a letter for how well its inheritance is supported. No crested gecko trait has yet been confirmed by gene testing, so nothing here is graded A, and a lower letter does not mean the look is not real or not inherited.

A Confirmed

Confirmed for this trait in crested geckos by DNA work or an equally direct test. No trait has this grade yet. A published genome on its own does not count.

B Breeder-supported

A breeding model or documented combination that breeders' own pairings back up. Not necessarily confirmed by anyone else or by DNA work, and not a statement that it is safe to produce.

C Provisional or disputed

A model with some support that is still provisional, loosely defined or disputed. Neither proven nor disproven.

D A look, a line or a name

A name for an appearance, a breeding line or a naming convention. It may still be inherited; the name alone does not tell you what genes a gecko carries.

U Unresolved

What the name means, which project it belongs to, or the evidence behind it is still unclear. Not proof that the look does not exist.

The grade is for the inheritance claim, not the look: a well-known appearance can still have little breeding evidence behind it.
