Entry 18Pattern
Highway
The pinning bleeds inward over the back.
HWYWhat it looks like
Highway is not a stripe down the spine. It is the colour of the pin rows running in off both edges of the back, in tongues and drips, and how far in it runs is what separates one Highway from the next.
A strong one floods the whole back and reads as a solid dorsal. A weak one only wets the edges, which leaves the middle of the back looking empty.
It is the third allele on the Sable and Cappuccino slot, so a gecko carries at most two of those three between them.
Two things Highway is known for are not drawn yet: its pebbly scale texture, and the orange wash hatchlings carry and lose as they grow.
Before you pair this
Two copies (Super Highway) have documented health complications. Worth planning a pairing around.
The series
Same animal, same seed. Only this gene changes. Open any one in the builder.
With another gene
The same gecko before and after.
It moves pattern, not colour
The base colour underneath is untouched. What changes is how much of the back the pin colour has taken over.
Named combinations
Morphs that need this gene and at least one other.
Highway Cappuccinoadvanced
Compound heterozygote phenotype. Visual expression combines Highway and Cappuccino traits. Distinct from Super Cappuccino. Some animals exhibit nostril reduction.

Highway Sableadvanced
Compound heterozygote phenotype. Visual expression combines Highway and Sable traits. Distinct from both simple Highway and simple Sable. Expression details still being documented.

Cappuccinoshare one place on the chromosome
Highway and Cappuccino occupy the same genetic locus (SA/CAPP/HWY allelic complex). HWY x CAPP crosses do not produce Super Cappuccino, confirming the allelic relationship. Compound heterozygotes (HWY/CAPP) express as Highway Cappuccino, with documented nostril reduction and associated health risks in some individuals.
Sableshare one place on the chromosome
Highway and Sable occupy the same genetic locus (SA/CAPP/HWY allelic complex). HWY x SA crosses do not produce Super Sable, confirming the allelic relationship. Compound heterozygotes (HWY/SA) express the Highway Sable phenotype.
Notes
In the genetics dataThird allele in the Sable/Cappuccino allelic complex. Incomplete dominant trait affecting coloration and dorsal pattern expression. Highway x Cappuccino and Highway x Sable produce distinct compound heterozygote phenotypes.
Telling it apartHighway het animals show pinning that bleeds or drips inward over the dorsum. Distinct pebbly scalation texture. Orange wash at hatch fades with age.
