Candling and viable eggs
See what candling tells you as each clutch is laid.
Candling happens as a clutch is laid. Incubator shows which eggs are growing at once; an egg that is not viable does not take an incubator slot. The baseline chance for each clutch is below. A pair’s career stages and family breeding tendency may change those chances, so read its preview for the pair in front of you.
| Viable eggs in a clutch | Baseline chance |
|---|---|
| 2 | 72% |
| 1 | 23% |
| 0 | 5% |
The tutorial season keeps every egg viable: 2 eggs, with 1 female and 1 male in each clutch. Your first season after the tutorial guarantees at least 1 viable egg in its first clutch. Later clutches follow the usual odds, including a chance of none. Candling reveals the clutch as it is laid; it is not a choice you can improve afterward. The growing eggs move into incubator slots.
